After a long break, Honda has announced the return of its famous sports car, the Prelude. First launched in 1978, this car quickly became popular among young buyers. Now, the sixth-generation Prelude makes a comeback as a hybrid, packed with modern technology and advanced features. It is launching first in Japan, with plans to reach North America by late 2025 and Europe in early 2026.
Design and Style
The new Prelude carries a sleek and sporty design. Its low profile, wide stance, and “double bubble” roof give it a sharp and aggressive look. The 19-inch machine-finished wheels and blue accents highlight its performance-oriented character.
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the cabin features leather-trimmed sport seats, a digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch touchscreen with Google built in and wireless Apple CarPlay. A Bose sound system, wireless charger, and multiple driving modes (Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual) all come standard, blending convenience with performance.
Engine and Performance
The Prelude is powered by a hybrid system combining a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with two electric motors. Together, they produce 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque, delivering quick acceleration and smooth performance on both city streets and highways. Honda’s new S+Shift technology simulates gear shifts and engine sounds, giving drivers the feel of a traditional sports car.
Mileage and Fuel Economy
Official fuel economy numbers are yet to be released, but Honda promises efficiency similar to its other popular hybrid models.
Price
In Japan, the starting price is set at about 6.17 million yen (roughly $41,800). With this launch, Honda aims to strengthen its hybrid lineup and reinforce its sporty brand image.
